AI Text Translations: Website in foreign Languages

Digital translation services are now extremely powerful and produce good foreign-language content. One of these services is DeepL from Germany, which we have connected to our content.life 4 system via an API interface. This API programming enables us to provide you with a translation service within the CMS. You need the corresponding contract for the "Feature as a Service" (FaaS) with us and you can create your pages within your website in different languages conveniently and with just a few clicks.

Don't confuse this service with "front-end translation": this service is about making real translations of content in the CMS content.life and putting them online as if you had written the text in the other languages yourself. It is not about people who use your website being able to translate it. This difference is crucial if you attach importance to the effective internationalization of your website and search engine optimization.

Translation via DeepL-API

Description

The translation service DeepL is made available for contentlife 4 via the echonet API in order to carry out high-quality translations in the CMS quickly and easily. The translation is carried out directly in the CMS using the meteolingo icon next to the individual fields. You can therefore decide at any time which texts you would like to have translated, which should be taken directly from the main language 1:1 or which should be translated by yourself. Of course, only the use of automatic translation via API via our DeepL account incurs costs.

Languages

Many languages are available for the translation system via the echonet DeepL API, which is called "meteolingo". These include German, English (UK, USA), French, Finnish, Greek, Indonesian, Japanese, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Slovakian, Spanish, Czech, Turkish, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Chinese, Russian and several other languages - if you want to take a closer look, you can do so at any time at deepl.com, where the language service is presented, which we can then address directly from the content management system via API.

Cost calculation for meteolingo

To calculate the right package, 2 pieces of information are relevant:

  1. How many languages does the website have for your international audience?
  2. How much content do you want to make available in the languages?

Calculation example

You run your website for a hotel in London, your guests come from distant hosts (China, Japan) and otherwise mainly from the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region and Italy. To be on the safe side, you also offer the website in French for other guests around the world.

  • 6 languages (German, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian)
  • You write texts in English yourself - from there they are translated.
  • Each month you write around 4 A4 pages of text (~ 2,200 characters / page) with new offers, current topics and price lists

You therefore write around 8,800 characters of new content per month, which you have translated from English into the other 5 languages. This gives you around 44,000 characters per month (8,800 x 5) for translation and all of this would then work in the 2nd stage (up to 50,000 characters per month).

GDPR conformity and credit carryover per year

Calculation over the calendar year ...

All "Features as a Service" (FaaS) have a monthly fee that is based on consumption. Additional costs incurred if consumption is exceeded are only charged if consumption was too high over the entire calendar year. So if you consume less in April and more in July, you take the credit from April with you. Only if the total for the year is too high will you be charged subsequently.

Works without consent ...

All echonet cloud services are designed in such a way that - as long as they are services on the website itself - they also work without consent in accordance with the GDPR. This means that the content or statistics created with them are also comprehensive and not only available to those users of the website who have explicitly consented. This creates statistics with real numbers, but it also creates content that is seen by everyone.

Why echonet Cloud-Services?

Cloud-Services and echonet Products

In contrast to echonet products, echonet cloud services are created on the basis of external software. echonet products are developed in-house in our digital workshop. The following applies to the cloud services: echonet creates the interfaces and, for some services, also the technical operation / server (e.g. website statistics).

You could therefore also bypass echonet's cloud services and take care of them yourself, as you have the same option of procuring this software as we do. You can operate your own servers for this and also have corresponding interfaces developed - also by us. If you use a lot of software, it may be cheaper for you to use your own service or server - especially if you have your own in-house IT department.

This can be attractive in terms of costs, but you will create a number of construction sites around your website that you will then have to manage yourself.

Questions and Answers ...

Can I operate these services myself or have them connected to the web system?

Yes, you can. All of echonet's cloud services are not a "secret", they are officially available services, software or API interfaces.

What advantages do I have if I do this myself without echonet?

If you have a very high consumption, this can be financially cheaper for you - at least for normal operation.

What are the disadvantages of doing it myself and not using echonet cloud services?

If the software needs an update, the interface is changed by the company or organization providing it or the capacities (storage space...) are exhausted, you will also have to take care of this yourself. You can also commission us to do this, but such adjustments can quickly take a person-day and thus completely destroy the cost advantage.

Translation without contract according to consumption

The meteolingo translation system in the form of the API for translating web content into many languages can also be booked directly according to usage without a contract. Billing then has no fixed fees but only an invoice based on actual usage at the end of the year.

The invoice at the end of the year is calculated on the basis of the price quoted for using the system on demand.

Note: You also need a contract for this form of billing, but there is no basic flat rate that would be charged. However, the unit price for this offer is higher than for the flat-rate contracts. Also included in the costs for this offer is the fact that echonet takes care of the API and makes any necessary adaptations if the interface is changed by the provider.
